چکیده

Predicting particle dispersion in recirculating two-phase flows is a key issue for reacting flows and a potential application of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) methods. In this study, Euler/Euler and Euler/Lagrange LES approaches are compared in the bluff body configuration from Borée et al. [1] where glass beads are injected into a complex recirculating flow. These tests are performed for non-reacting, nonevaporating sprays but are mandatory validations before computing realistic combustion chambers. Two different solvers (one explicit and compressible and the other implicit and incompressible) are also tested on the same configuration. Results show that the gas flow is well predicted by both solvers. The dispersed phase is also well predicted by both solvers but the Lagrangian approach predicts RMS values more accurately than the Eulerian approach. The effects of mesh, solvers and numerical schemes are discussed for each method.

Mixed Large-Eddy Simulation Model for Turbulent Flows across Tube Bundles Using Parallel Coupled Multiblock NS Solver

In this study, turbulent flow around a tube bundle in non-orthogonal grid is simulated using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique and parallelization of fully coupled Navier – Stokes (NS) equations. To model the small eddies, the Smagorinsky and a mixed model was used. This model represents the effect of dissipation and the grid-scale and subgrid-scale interactions. The fully coupled NS eq...

Application of DNS and LES to Dispersed Two-Phase Turbulent Flows

An overview and examples of the application of Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) to prediction and the scientific study of dispersed, turbulent two-phase flows is presented. This contribution focuses on Eulerian-Lagrangian treatments in which dispersed phase properties are obtained from discrete particle trajectories. The scope of the approaches considered are on...
